Since 2016 Black History Wales’ (BHWales) artistic agenda is to create Arts events across Wales that share diverse cultures, promote creativity, celebrate difference and increase long term engagement with African and African Caribbean Arts and communities in Wales.

Our team believes that Art is a powerful force, which unites, transforms and inspires. Art has the ability to reflect different ideas, emotions and cultural identities, initiate intercultural dialogue, showcase diversity and contribute to greater racial equality. Throughout the years BHWales established strong relationships with local and international artists, becoming the biggest promoter and facilitator of Artists of African and Caribbean descent in Wales.

Every year, BHWales delivers exceptional events and celebrations to promote African and African-Caribbean heritage and culture to communities across Wales.

BHWales contributes to the formation of the most vibrant and culturally diverse artistic scenery in Wales, and in 2020 established The Black History Wales Artists Gallery to showcase the work of the most talented individuals, who create thought-provoking, intriguing and educational artworks. The aim is to promote artist’s talents, skills and artworks, to as many people as possible.

The Black History Wales Artists Gallery’s approach to arts is multidisciplinary. The gallery consists of a variety of artists and art forms, ranging from contemporary storytellers to novelists. The ultimate goal is to depict to the best of our ability the rich and vibrant arts inspired by African culture and created by Artists of African and Caribbean descent in Wales.

BHM Wales works closely with and is supported by Arts Council Wales to deliver this programme and to showcase diversity throughout the Arts.
