Description
Born in Moscow to capeverdean parents in 1981, Soren grew up in a musical family. His mother, Teresa Araújo, an accomplished singer, routinely took him to her rehearsals with the traditional capeverdean band Simentera. Having picked up the guitar at age 12, Soren spent most of his teenage and young adult like playing with Metal bands, in Namibia, Germany and Cape Verde. In 2008, Soren received an invitation to become a member of the band of the renowned musician, author and former Minister of Culture, Mário Lúcio Sousa. This proved to be a turning point in Soren's musical career, having toured extensively through much of Europe, to Morroco, and as far as India, for the best part of 12 years. This touring experience enabled Soren Araújo to gain influences and inspiration from many different cultures around the world, which informs his universal, genre-fluid songwriting style, as showcased in his debut album "Six Degrees of Separation" released in 2021.
Having moved to Wales in early 2020, as of 2022, Soren Araújo was one of the BBC Horizons Launchpad awardees, and is currently nominated for Best Original Artist and Best Male Solo Artist in WREA 2023.
