Mum’s the Word
About this Event
This is an online event.
How do people of British (and European) New World colonial heritage feel when they are prevented from speaking the mother tongue of their ancestors. Do they recognise the language overlaps in the acquired language of their colonisers and/or previous enslavers? Do they ever connect with ‘lost’ languages? Which of these languages instil pride or shame? Join this forum live or online, to include BAME parents and children, community activists, language and culture specialists across North Wales and further afield.
This discussion will take place in front of an invite-only (socially distanced) audience and will be live-streamed.
This event is part of the Being Human series ‘Mind Your Languages’ organised by Race Council Cymru and Bangor University. ‘Mind Your Languages’ explores Black Asian and Minority Ethnic Languages spoken in North Wales amongst UK families of colonial diaspora.
Link to livestream coming soon. Please contact the organiser directly with any queries.
