Dr Shehu has been a Consultant Neurologist in Coventry since 1996, He established neuro-rehabilitation and established and maintained the Stroke service at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, UK. He has also established and maintained the Multiple Sclerosis services.

Over the years Shehu has continued to be involved in clinical trials around multiple sclerosis, which is his specialist area of interest. He is a member of the MS Research Group in the UK. He has participated in the CAMS and CUPID studies which are based on the use of cannabinoids in the treatment of multiple sclerosis. He has been part of the risk-sharing scheme for the Department of Health recording and monitoring patients who are undergoing disease modifying therapy since 2005.
He became a Consultant Neurologist in 1996. He was a Clinical Director for eight years, then Divisional Medical Director for four years.
Dr. Abdullah is also an honorary lecturer for Warwick University Medical School and Clinical Personal Tutor to eight medical students, seeing them through their clinical years, providing guidance, and supporting them as a mentor until they qualify.
He is also participating in monitoring studies of patients taking Tysabri for multiple sclerosis – TYGRIS and TOP Studies. He is also currently involved as a collaborator in MS STAT2 study as PI for University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire.
