Franklyn Jacobs is one of the founders of the African Caribbean Medical Society which helps raises awareness and campaigns for greater understanding of health issues within the Black community.

Jacobs was the son of Dr Cooper Jacobs and Leonie Cato Jacobs. His mother died shortly after his birth and his father left Trinidad to study medicine in the United Kingdom. He grew up with his parental grandmother.
Franklyn Jacobs studied medicine in the University of West Indies and worked as a doctor in 1968 in Trinidad. Later, Jacobs travelled to obtain further training in anaesthetics in Britain. He went into the NHS as a GP in a Greek community in North London. Dr Jacobs founded The African Caribbean Medical Society with Lord Pitt and Dr Eddie Simon with the intention of spreading awareness and engaging greater understanding of health issues within the Black community
Jacobs married his first wife Josephine and had three children. He later remarried.
