Baulch was born in Nottingham to a Jamaican father and an English mother, but raised by adoptive parents in Newport.
Baulch started his athletics career with the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team in 1991 at 18 years. He made his debut at a Junior International in Spain in 1991 and won the 200m race which broke the Welsh record. He started running 400m races and specialised in it. He won gold, silver, and bronze medals for 400m race during the period of 1997-2003. He set a European record while running second leg for Britain’ Olympic silver medal team which was 44.19 seconds. He was in the 4 x 400m relay team that finished second in the 1997 world championship but was later recognised as first due to the disqualification of the US team.
Baulch has set several records including the Welsh Indoor records for 46.36 seconds and 46.13 seconds. He won all his five competitions at 400m races in 1999. In 2001, he was made the captain of the British team at the World Indoors, but he later had to withdraw due to injury. The injury impacted his form for a while, but he came back to form in 2003. In 2003, he won two bronze medals at the World Indoor games.
Baulch retired from athletics in 2005 and then started different businesses, including a sports management company, a fundraising platform and a silent auction hosting company.
Jamie Baulch is married to Susannah Spring and has two children, Morgan and Jay . Baulch has a fashion brand which he part-owns called Crow & Jester, and he is also involved with Jaguar Cars. Baulch was raised by his adoptive parents and in 2014 he made a documentary called Being Jamie Baulch: Looking for my birth mum, in which he was located by his biological mother. He usedthe same approach in 2016, when he was looking for his biological father.
