Princess Tsehai supported the establishment of the Ethiopian Women’s Welfare Work Association. Following the formation of the Ethiopian Red Cross in 1935, Princess Tsehi worked with the organisation as a volunteer. In 1936, she joined her father in exile in London and trained as a state registered nurse at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children, graduating in 1939. She also enrolled on postgraduate courses during the Second World War and nursed civilians injured during the Blitz. On return to Ethiopia in 1941, she worked in Dessie Hospital.
