Presentations and discussions on the ways in which Wales and Jamaica have been connected over the centuries.

Liz Millman, head of Learning Links International, will explore how the eisteddfod – a very  Welsh cultural phenomenon – became established in Jamaica over a hundred years ago.

Dr Marian Gwyn will discuss the origins and history of Pennants, a village set within the heart of Jamaica that was named after the Pennant family of Penrhyn Castle, Bangor, north Wales. The Pennant family owned sugar and slave plantations in Jamaica, with Pennants being one of their first and one of their largest. Much can be learned from studying this little village about early colonialism and human exploitation.
