Jamaica Evening with the WI

Jamaica Evening with the WI

The Anglesey Federation of the WI celebrates Black History Month with an evening dedicated to exploring the close connections between north-west Wales and Jamaica. The event will take place at the world famous Thomas Telford toll house in Llanfair PG, the home of the first WI meeting.

Dr Marian Gwyn will deliver an illustrated talk on historical connections between Wales and colonialism, focusing on the slave plantations of the Pennant family of Penrhyn Castle, Bangor.

Liz Millman will share details of some of the projects she is currently undertaking through her organisation Learning Links International. These include the formation of the Jamaica-Wales Alliance and the restoration work at Pennants School in Jamaica.

The evening will close with a delicious buffet with a Jamaican flavour.
