Black History Wales 2021 : Celebrate Local Heroes and Sheroes
Today we celebrate the start of the month of October as the Launch of our 2021 Black History Cymru 365.
Our theme for the year is Celebrating Local Heroes and Sheroes.
Join us as we celebrate Wales’ hidden heroes who champion Black History, starting with the unveiling of our Black History Wales Patron, late Betty Campbell’s magnificent statue.
To our other Black History Patrons, such as Patti Flynn RIP, Mrs Vernesta Cyril OBE, Dr Grace Kerry, Mrs Geraldine Trotman, Mr Len Lawrence, Mrs Elaine Clark (Nee Campbell), Rachel Clark, Nicky Delgado, Roma Taylor, Mrs Angela Barnes RIP, and so many other incredible unsung heroes of Wales, we salute you and many more.
We celebrate all our Elders, those who are listed here and those who are not. We remember all who died during this pandemic. We pray that your souls will rest in peace and power. We will share online the images and videos of our community receiving the Queen’s Award today. As we receive the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services, we thank our Lord Lieutenant Morfudd Meredith for all her support.
We thank the Hon First Minister of Wales, Professor Mark Drakeford MS and Jane Hutt, Minister for Social Justice and all our Ministers for their unstinting support for Black History.
BHC 365 is funded by Arts Council Wales and our Windrush Cymru Exhibition is funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund.
