Black Lives Matter Wales
Black History 365 Future Milestones with BLM Wales: BLM Manifesto Workshop
Background
Twelve regions of Wales have come together to identify specific areas that need urgent attention in order to lead to a better quality of life and livelihoods for Black people in Wales. These demands are made from people from all walks of life in Abergavenny, Bangor, Bridgend, Cardiff, Caernarfon, Caerphilly, Carmarthen, Cynon Valley, Merthyr, Port Talnot, Swansea and Wrexham.
Our manifesto is a call to action on important changes that must be made within various sectors such as:
Welsh Government
Culture, Arts and Heritage
Public Services
Training and Recruitment
Community, Support and Leadership
Promotion and Representation
Economy and Employment
Police
We will be facilitating a much needed discussion on the areas listed above. We need your opinions and stories no matter what your background is. It is an excellent opportunity for allies that are searching for action that they can take, a moment for Black people to have their experiences deeply valued and heard. It is a place to make sure that your perspective has an impact on the way our manifesto is launched this coming winter!
Workshop Details
This workshop will commence with a warm welcome and re-introduction to the BLM Wales Collective. We will then dive straight into tackling the demands we are making on Welsh Government with a whole group session. After a brief break, we will then split off into self-designated breakout rooms to cover other areas of the manifesto. Yes! That means you will be able to choose from the breakout rooms that we have on the day and join them specifically (please ensure you have updated your Zoom to the latest version).
Leading your breakout room will be a BLM Wales Regional Leader that is personally invested in seeing that particular sector change, so you will be in a room led by passionate people like yourself!
The BLM Wales Collective aligns with Black History 365 and we will revisit key historical figures and the lessons they have given us. In some instances, this will be really central to helping us get to grips with why certain demands are so important, in other breakout rooms, homage will be paid to thought-leaders as we press on with friendly discussions around the manifesto itself. Blending Black History with this session will be the undercurrent of our discussions as we create Black History of our own!
We hope that you look forward to sharing your views and teasing out the manifesto with likeminded people. We very much look forward to seeing you there!
