Black History Month Wales BHMW celebrates its 10th year anniversary in Wales this year!
Join us in celebrating the history, culture and contributions of people of Black-African and African Caribbean in events, educational and creative activities all across Wales.
To celebrate BHMW 2017, the theme for the year is:
“OUR STARS. OUR FUTURE. OUR HISTORY: 10th Anniversary 2017’’ #BHMWales10.
(Hashtag #BHMWales10). For the first time, BHM Wales will have an official launch date in North Wales as we seek to expand our programme
To recognise the achievements of young people from Black and Minority Ethnic communities in Wales, we will be holding our second Black History Youth Awards 2017 at the Pierhead, Cardiff Bay.
Welsh Government Cabinet Secretary Mark Drakeford AM will officially launch Black History Month and Black History Youth Awards 2017 in its 10th Year Anniversary in Wales. The event is open to members of the public in Wales.
Last year, the first of these award ceremonies was held at the Senedd, Cardiff Bay. Led by Race Council Cymru, the awards ceremony was a huge success, with awards presented by the Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Local Government Professor Mark Drakeford AM. The ceremony and winners received nationwide coverage and prime time spots on BBC News and ITV’s Newsweek.
The Black History Wales network is made up of over 104 pan-Wales organisations such as; youth charities, grassroots groups, schools, Further Education and Higher Education institutions representing people of different cultures, faiths and geographical locations who sit on our steering committee. These include Amgueddfa Cymru/ Museum Wales; African Community Centre – Wales; Cardiff and Bangor Universities; Schools; Minority Ethnic Achievement Support (MEAS) Team; Neath Port Talbot CBC; The Cardiff Volunteer Centre @C3SC; Jamaican Society; Wales Millennium Centre, Barnardos Cymru, National Assembly for Wales and Trade Unions in Wales to name a few.
