Dr April-Louise Pennant is an award-winning scholar-activist and changemaker who passionately uses education, policy, research & consulting to transform spaces & places. Since completing her ESRC-funded Ph.D. in Education at the University of Birmingham, UK she took up a post at the Welsh Government where she has been involved in the implementation and development of the new Additional Learning Needs system and the Race Equality Action Plan. She has also utilised her expertise to advise as a member of the ‘Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Communities, Contributions and Cynefin in the New Curriculum’ working group as well as co-authoring the pioneering report ‘Running Against the Wind: Report on Black Lives Matter & staff experiences of race, gender & intersectionality in the Welsh Government’. April-Louise is also a research associate in the Chair for Critical Studies in Higher Education Transformation (CriSHET) at Nelson Mandela University, South Africa where she infuses her expertise and passions for social justice, intersectionality and education to centre the lived experiences and journeys of Black British girls and women within educational and academic debates.
