Our Approach
Black History Wales
We are a leading organisation in Wales which, through the creative arts, promotes a better understanding of black history, changes perspectives on black culture, challenges inequalities experienced by many black communities and promotes respect for cultural differences. We believe in the power of the arts to enrich and to change the lives of black people in Wales.
Black History Wales
Artists
Black History Wales contributes to the formation of the most vibrant and culturally diverse artistic scenery in Wales, and in 2020 established The Black History Wales Artists Gallery to showcase the work of the most talented individuals, who create thought-provoking, intriguing and educational artworks. The aim is to promote artist’s talents, skills and artworks, to as many people as possible.
Black History Wales
Black History is a global movement and an initiative to research and re-tell the history of people of African and African-Caribbean descent. In Wales, Black History is marginalised, overlooked and unrepresented, and Black History Wales’ (BHW) objective is to change that.
The Black History Wales network is made up of over 126 pan-Wales organisations such as; youth charities, grassroots groups, schools, Further Education and Higher Education institutions representing people of different cultures, faiths and geographical locations who sit on our steering committee.
Black History Month Wales (BHMWales)
BHMWales is a month of celebrations to acknowledge the contributions made by people of African and African-Caribbean descent to local, national and world history and culture by delivering informative, educational and celebratory programme during the month of October every year.
